Rafah, Gaza Strip, Occupied Palestine antiwar demo

At the very last minute, and despite everyone being on holiday for the preceding 5 days due to Eid, internationals just about "organised" an antiwar demo in Rafah to coincide with the day of action.

We were told it was impossible, but we still had a turnout of about 100 including lots of kids from the children's parliament.

With signs including "South London for Peace in the Middle East" and "Malvern Against The War" the internationals joined the crowd. Homemade USA and Israeli flags were burnt by the kids and one of the internationals.

Unfortunately it often needs the presense of internationals before events here are newsworthy, but it worked on Saturday as the shebab (youth) that continuously are around us told us we were on Al Jazeera.

Along with the wonderful, huge antiwar demos in our own home countries this has enormously helped our credibility amongst the local population which helps our work.

A huge thank you to everybody on the London demo particularly as this has changed the reaction when I say where I am from to "Tony Blair" to "2 million march" - these demonstrations might not get media attention in the west but they are widely reported over here and give a tremendous boost to the Palestinians that they are not alone.
