being from the uk i was intrigued about levels of support over here. as you all probably know any marching was banned due to this phoney 'orange alert' in NY (people are busily buying up tape and plastic sheeting to build 'safe rooms' to defend themselves from chemical warfare). Instead of a march the organisers were allowed a rally above 51st on first avenue but basically the police had just closed off roads all over the city.

the police were sending marchers on a wild goose chase all round the city and making arrests virtually on a whim - one i saw was made on a girl who jumped up on a street sign to wave to friends - hardly a capital offence. so this is the vaunted democracy that the US are fighting to bring to Iraq - the right not to be able to demonstrate in your own country - surely they have that right already?
