A dozen of people has occupied the head office of Patria Industries today at 2.40 P.M. in Helsinki, Finland. The action was directed against war and global arms industry.
PATRIA INDUSTRIES HEAD-OFFICE OCCUPIED IN HELSINKI, FINLAND:
AN ACTION AGAINST WAR AND ARMS INDUSTRY
A dozen of people has occupied the head office of Patria Industries today at 2.40 P.M. in Helsinki, Finland. The action was directed against war and global arms industry. The arms industry are ones who will make profits from the war on Iraq which is planned by the US and its allies.
The arms industry makes money off suffering of people. This is why the activists seek to stop the dealers of death and they demand, that the arms trade to US must be cancelled immediately.
Finnish State and the biggest European arms industry group, EADS, are the owners of Patria Industries. Patria is part of european arms industry, which hasn't ever hesitated to deal arms to countries which are waging war and/or violating human rights, for example: Indonesia, Turkey - and Iraq. Now Patria Hägglunds - which is owned by Patria & Alvis Hägglunds AB - is going to sell their AMOS-Mortar System for the US military, which is ready to attack Iraq.
The activists demand that Europe says NO to war, and REFUSES to finance or deliver arms for the war.
The war becomes possible, because the governments around the world and global economical structures give their silent or open acceptance for the war. Only practical actions, such as the occupation of Patria's office today, can challenge this acceptance and stop wars.
The leaders of the war against terrorism are suspending civil rights, forging nationalism and creating illusions of national unity, to cover up the real conflicts and contradictions in our society. The sovereignty which rules the world is so weak, that it needs war to legitimate its existence.
The group who occupied Patria's office, consists of peace activists, squatters, young greens and disobedients.
