Glasgow Anti War rally banned

@-scot | 13.02.2003 15:22 | Anti-militarism | Repression

First the SECC management bowed to Labour pressure and denied electricity for the rally, they have now apparently banned the stage from their property.

Tommy Sheridan et al will have to shout louder than usual, I suppose.

Can't say that I would hang about listening to the usual suspects anyway, but I think it's worth noting. Also worth noting are the local attractions for alternative rallying, should the SECC be out of bounds. These include territorial army (para reg.) base, just around the corner from SECC, MOD HQ at Argyll St, army recruitment office in Queen St, and many more suitable places to end up with your mates, especially when all the cops in the west of scotland will be at the SECC.

Meet up with the red and black contingent of anarchos and assorted anbti-authoritarians at the big obelisk on Glasgow Green before the march, or look out for the red and black flags, and the Fight The Rich, Not Their Wars banner.

NO WAR BUT THE CLASS WAR!

I heard Labour MP George Galloway at the Stop the War Coalition conference call for Blair to be surrounded at this conference, just like the democratic convention in 1968. Mass civil disobedience, a real noise, like Seattle, surrounding the fuckers and stopping them - so what's happening?

What's happening? Lots. Exclusion zones, blockades and curfews. Well, that's what the powers that be are putting about. We'll just have to see what happens on the day. Gorgeous George will be about, no doubt, comparing suntans with Tommy Sheridan of the Scottish Socialist Party. I'm sure they will make their voices heard somehow or other. And so will the rest of us. There are plans afoot.
