These tanks and troops being moved to heathrow will be in striking distance to this saturdays anti war demo .They will be moved in if the goverment dosn't like whats going on.Will our goverment be so stupid that it would take on its own upset public?
also will we see a terrorist alert which will lead to arrests quickly linked to iraq over next few days?

!
you mean 'martial law' peut-etre?
11.02.2003 11:10
the might of the police is quite sufficient to maintain order in London without appealing to 'martial law'.
This will be a peaceful and vast demonstration-- and I think it should be clear to everyone who stands to gain from spreading rumours that it will be (a) violent and (b) met with violence.
So just piss off-- or see you in the streets on Saturday

I doubt the government/met's move to put troops at heathrow is as straight forward as they make out, ie more to do with raising the fear levels in the run up to war, but come on do you really think they are planning to role tanks out at an anti-war demo!

troops were put on the streets of glasgow,The miners strikes in the 1980s soldiers took part with the police in fact desguised as police, BLOODY SUNDAY IN IRELAND.we should be aware of this but the best way to go is through a MASS PEACEFUL PROTEST WITH AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE ON THE STREETS OF LONDON AND GLASGOW.

Look at my muscles!

However, Al-Qaeda don't have a track record of attacking on significant dates, far from it in fact. The troops will remain deployed 'as long as is neccessary' according to the reporter.
So, with no specific threat, this is clearly muscle flexing. Who it is aimed at is debatable; Gov say to reassure the public, seems more to scare them.
Regardless, 15th Feb will be bigger than the entire UK armed forces personnel combined.

A Joke?

Yawn.... I can't say I noticed, walking down Holloway Road, it was an ordinary day, everyone as miserable as ever, slaves to their shopping bags, wishing they were dead anyway and already brain-dead.
Right?
Climate of Fear

- make the folks who elect (or not) the govt think there is a greater threat than there really is - by putting troops on the streets, & use some bullshit reason (like they have done), the daily (hate) mail & sun readers will all think it's a sign that
there is more of a threat from terrorists, asylum seekers, whoever the govt wants to scapegoat next.
There is no evidence to support their theory that Al-Qaeda will carry out an attack on a specific date - unless you're a conspiracy theorist who believes in the power & significance of the number 11...
So it's convenient for the march on sat - gives the sun readers a chance to let their brain cells stumble into action & think that there is a greater threat to their freedom etc & all these
folks protesting on Saturday are wrong.
If you haven't see Michael Moore's film 'Bowling for Columbine'
then I strongly recommend it - explains the theory behind the 'climate of fear' approach very well (& shows how fuct up america is)
