After a few unfounded complaints from local businesses Camden council are trying to close down a Hare Krishna centre in Camden Town which provides free food and activities for local homeless people. The complaints are totally unfounded and appear to be mere vindictivness because of hatred of local homeless people in Camden by local businesses.
The centre has been in Camden Town for over six months and during that time it has provided a valuable service to local homeless people such free food, internet access, computer skills training, yoga, guitar and drumming tuition and is also used as a distribution centre by the Big Issue where Big Issue sellers from North London can come to pick up their papers. The aledged complaints have been about people using the centre being drunk and abusive to passers by and local people. The centre staff have investigated the complaints and found most of them to be totally untrue and have also enforced new rules such as banning people from drinking outside or near the centre and refusing to serve people who are drunk or under the influence of drugs.
Write letters in support of the centre and against its proposed closure to Camden coucil, Camden Town Hall, Judd Street, London. WC1H 9JE.
