don't you think this is a bit premature? chirac will more than likely cave and at least abstain from the vote - germany can't even veto.

moreover, why on earth would we celebrate these scumbags - it's just luck that they happen to be on our side this time!

What a stupid suggestion.

Are you crazy or are you just another one of those people that post braindead comments on indymedia without thinking what you're writing?

I'm living in Germany at the moment and thought I'd give you a quick update on how the radical-left view the SPD/Green attitude towards the war.

*During the last election Schröder was very vocal in his opposition to the war against Iraq. This was veiwed by most simply as an attempt to express an anti-american sentiment in order to win votes. It worked, he won the election and then promptly announced that he would allow the US to use it's bases in Germany for opperations against Iraq and that he would grant the US Airforce the right to fly over Germany. In effect he has managed to posture as being against the war to win votes but has purposefully chosen not to hinder any US led operation.

*A new round of important elections are coming up in some of the southern parts of Germany. It is crucial for the SPD that they do not loose power in these areas. One way of winning/maintaining support is to continue to express opposition to the war (whilst never really doing anything to prevent it of course - Germany will also benefit from the war in terms sales of arms from German companies to the British, US and other militaries, the increased control of the Gulf region oil supplies by the West etc...).

*Germany are currently hosting a NATO Security Conference in Munich. Whilst being able to posture at the Conference as being against the war, by hosting the event they are providing essential infrastructure to allow the US and UK to put forward their case for war, build a more united front and get down to planning the invasion of Iraq and it's subsequent carving up.

Although Germany seem to be at least questioning the US/UK determination to wage war on Iraq, regaredless of whether WMDs are found or not, if you think about it for any length of time I think celebrating these countries contribution to stopping the was is completely absurd. Your time would be better spent celebrating the huge and growing anti-war movement.

Celebrate those attending demos around the world on Feb 15th, those demonstrating in Munich against the NATO Security Conference, those travelling to Iraq as human shields, those occupying army recruitment offices, breaking into Fairford, trashing Menwith Hill, sabotaging US bombers based in Ireland.

You nutter!

Schröder's war on the unemployed

10.02.2003 14:25

Schröder's gang are discussing at the moment plans to cut unemployment payments in Germany. They are not on our side, they are just pursuing their own imperialist interests. It is important to understand this in case the conflict between the US and European imperialism escalates, which is unlikely but not impossible.
