Protest at Grosvenor Square on the February 15th.

Protest at Grosvenor Square on the February 15th.

The Stop the War demonstration passes close to the agitators behind
the drive to war. Cardiff Anarchists feel that we ought to
demonstrate our feelings to them too. Meet at Picadilly/Green Park
tube at 2:30 PM to march through Mayfair to Grosvenor Square.

If the police try and stop the protest, and for those of us who wish
to avoid confrontation use an alternative route to get to Grosvenor
Square at 3:00 PM.

Hopefully these times will allows us not to have to listen to rubbish
politicians in Hyde Park, but still join the sit down protest later.

Great idea, but..

Sounds like a great idea, but i have a sneaking suspicion will be prevented from entering the square. Having said that, it should be a laugh - and will be much more fun than tramping to Hyde Park and being mobbed by newspaper sellers.

If this is going to work we will need a good size mob - maybe over a thousand to make our presence felt. Note that the pigs have said they are using 1300 cops for the demo. Thats really not very many (Mayday uses up 6000 usually).

Oh yes, we'd better bring crash helmets too!

And remember the mass sit down protest aswell

Also remember the mass sit down protest at Piccadilly Circus as well. People will be meeting up near Green Park tube station for that at 5pm. Do leaflets for this action to hand out on the main march its important that this is a massive event with people blocking not just Piccadilly Circus but the surrounding streets of Lower Regent Street, Regent Street, Coventry Street and Shaftsbury Avenue.

Bring drums and instruments to this event as well. This is going to be the highlight of the day. If we can pack out this area which is the heart of the West End with thousands of people all chanting anti-war slogans then we will really make an impact. And it will be great if this goes on late into the night so that people out on the town see it as well!

It will also be good if we can try to keep this event as peaceful as possible even if the police start getting heavy and start pushing people about so bring flowers etc to give to the riot police. This is order to get as many passersby as possible and people who are hanging out to join in our protest! People who want confrontation can make their way to the US embassy but we should try a different tactic than confrontation here.

last sept

Last sept the US embassy / grosvenor square had a few visible plod at each corner and the building itself had mesh fences to stop protesters and large concrete blocks to stop vehicles ramming it.
Would take only a few thousand people to peacefully seal it off although I expect they have an evacuation tunnel to some other building where embassy staff could, er, seek asylum.
