Police had already done much of the work for the blockaders by shutting down the base before they arrived. Citizen weapons inspectors have searched the base and will report back on their findings later today. Although similar inspections in Iraq have turned up no evidence of nuclear weapons according the Internationl Atomic Energy Agency observers, the inspectors at Lakenheath should have no difficulties finding nuclear weapons - that is, if the American military authorities are not obstructive, as they have been repeatedly in the recent past, at airbases such as Fairford, Shannon, and Feltwell.

Weapons from Lakenheath and its 48th Fighter Wing could be used by the United States Air Force if the Bush administration determines that a nuclear strike should be carried out during its imminent war of aggression on Iraq.
