Trident Ploughshares activists arrested by armed police

Three peace activists were arrested last night after attempting to break into RAF Menwith Hill, a US Spy Base, and an essential part of Bush’s plan for war on Iraq as well as being one of the bases that the US government wishes to use for their controversial plans for “Star Wars.”
Joss Garman, Sylvia Boyes and Olivia Agate were arrested. Joss said, “Bush speaks of respect for the UN, but he has none. He has abandoned the Anti Ballistic Missile Treaty (ABM Treaty) to push ahead with his plans for war in space, and now he wants to ignore the UN, the majority of the world’s people and Nelson Mandela, in threatening war against a people that have been savaged by sanctions for over ten years. Bush is a terrorist, and a greater threat to world peace than Saddam will ever be.”
This protest follows on from tens of previous arrests resulting from his peaceful actions with non-violent direct action group, Trident Ploughshares. This is a group aiming to rid the UK of it’s nuclear weapons of mass destruction through open and accountable, peaceful acts of people’s disarmament.
The protesters are to appear in Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday 6th charged with Criminal Damage after painting peace slogans on and cutting a hole in the perimeter fence of the base.

something happened in Ireland this morning.
03.02.2003 11:03
Irish Indepedent newspaper 10h22 reporting in breaking news that five people have entered Shannon airport and that they have with lump-hammers taken issue with an illegally parked airplane of the United States Air Forces who are diverse and unwelcome visitors to Ireland a neutral country.
These five people are reported by http://www.unison.ie the website of the Irish Independent to be in custody at Shannon Garda station. My computer is not linking today to http://www.ireland.indymedia.org through here or through the following sites sweden, wales, austria indymedia centres.
The issue is alledged to have been taken with the same plane part of the American war machine itself a machine that was last week hit on the expensive tech filled nose by Mark Kelly. She is an activist of many traditions and thus has annoyed more than a mere crusty anarko hippy trippy type the Irish authorities and perchance those further afield.
I am most pissed off that my morning commenting and communication with my peers who use ireland.indymedia.org has been disturbed. I shall have to wait for the internet to work again. I would appreciate all assistance in making the cybernet which is the connection between I Mr O´as-if and the wonderful peers who make use of ireland.indymedia.org to re-.establish contact.
Ireland is very good at being irritating.
Trident Ploughshare well know how their work and activism has helped the current Neutrality campaign in Ireland, one that has grown in recent times against a divisive backdrop of other perhaps older agenda.

so i couldn´t get to talk to the peers anywhere.
well in UK i could. Strange place UK. I lived there years. I remember up the top of the UK the old ladies of Faslane gave a generation, no more generations! the moral imperative legal excuse thin edge of the wedge.
This war has so says a Mozambique candidate for UNHCR officer (impressive sourcing of statastics) cost twenty times the cost of giving the world´s children preventative vaccines. Lots of preventative vaccines in the UK. and the US and Ireland. and BCN. We mostly carry scars upon our arms where the preventative vaccines did their thing.
Trident people you´re cool. Ireland is very complicated, we have always been very complicated, you will need more than a few weeks to even grasp how complicated we can be. But you probably like the general gist of the complexity.
If ever my cookies don´t work again, i won´t get so panicky.
did I panic? oh yes. shaking cookie crumbs all over the place. Now you can´t guide anything with shaking cookies crumbs. not a thing. so don´t try.
Ireland is a traditionaly neutral country.
Those words are presently being written in both UK and US hey let´s say US/K newspapers. And maybe because lots of people in US/K don´t remember "there aren´t a lot of Irish people".... "perhaps they´re very good at being complicated" you might miss the point of what the spanish call "intercambio". interchange. lessons beween cultures and ways of doing things....ya basta. now we all know what that means. enough. now. sort of. chomskyites chomping at the bit.
Bye bye for now US/K you really aren´t a suitable place for me to have a cyber intercambio ya basta thing with my peers.
DO IT AGAIN TRIDENT PLOUGHSHARE!

I suggest you all go to Baghdad and see if your protest against a tyranical leader is tolerated there!
I've heard all the liberal "inteligencia" protest about previous wars that have stopped far worse crimes and regimes in the past. After the war has ended and the Iraqi population is rid of this evil bastard Saddam then the Country can start to rebuild, sanctions will end and neibouring Countries will fell safe again. In addition to that the weapons of mass destruction that are in Iraqi can be destroyed before some asshole buys them and kills thousands in the NY or London (or PARIS, are you listening French leaders?)
Saddam rul;es by fear and I'd like to see the Iraqi population free of him, lets get rid of him by the only method he understands, the gun!

Get your chance to protest at Menwith Hill

Foil the Base
March 22nd 2003
*** A day of peaceful creative direct action, music, speakers and a tour at US military base Menwith Hill, Yorkshire ***
Menwith Hill plays a crucial role in war on Iraq. As the largest electronic monitoring station in the world it picks up communications from satellites covering the Middle East – it even won an award for its eavesdropping in the last Gulf War. It is the ‘brains’ of any attack on Iraq.
Menwith is also a key base for the project of long-term military aggression - ‘Star Wars’.
To ‘foil the base’ – disrupt satellite signals at the base - there has to be as much foil in the air as possible. Bring foil kites, foil balloons, foil puppets – use your imagination!
All welcome.
Let’s make our demonstrations visible at the real heart of the military machine - if only a fraction of the people marching in London take action at military bases the war will become unworkable.
This time in March is the Spring Equinox – the turning of the
seasons when night and day are of equal length. It’s the time to celebrate life’s ability to regenerate – to de-legitimise the military system and transform our frustration into hope and active resistance for a better world.
For direct action training, for speakers on Star Wars and Menwith Hill, or to be a transport organiser for your area contact Neighbourhoods Opposing War (NOW) at mail@now-peace.org.uk

*** For those in the south, there will also be a 22nd March action at Fairford base, Gloucestershire - see www.gwi.org.uk ***
