Iraq v America: Football Match For Peace

rikki | 02.02.2003 00:24

Organising meeting on Sunday 2nd, for match next week the 9th at Market Road Astroturf N7

Americans and Iraqis living in London will play a football match for peace on Sunday 9th Feb. We are united in our opposition to Bush and Blair's war on Iraq, which we believe will be illegal, unjust and immoral, and cause terrible devastation and death to the ordinary people of Iraq. Come and see Americans and Iraqis make their statement for peace in this FRIENDLY game.

WHO ARE WE? As citizens of the US it is our responsibility to renounce our political leaders as they take the role of aggressor in a war which threatens the international community. AAW's aim is to resist systems of war for profit and help build a crucial link between voices of opposition in the US and those in the UK.

OUR ACTIVITIES: The Iraq v America football match for peace is the latest initiative of "Americans Against The War", which was launched by Americans living in London in December 2002. Since then, we have organised a packed public meeting, "Americans in London say No to War" and a 24 hour "vigil for peace" in front of the US embassy in Grosvenor Square.

We are also involved in an initiative in North London secondary schools aimed at creating an active dialogue for peace with London youth. "Americans against the War" members are active in a number of local Stop The War groups. More info: antiwaramericans @hotmail.com
