"I know the streets of Baghdad. I can assure you that they will be filled with jubilant Iraqis after the dictator has gone. "

No they won't - they'll be filled with corpses. Twat.

yes but...

The article is by Dr. Barham Salih, prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Sulaymania. If Saddam is overthrown he stands to gain political power in the region. And of course, since he's writing from Rome, there is little chance that he'll be part of the collateral damage.
I'ld rather listen to the views of ordinary Iraqis, and people who live in the surrounding regions. From what I can make out, they are pretty much against the war.
The whole liberation argument would be more credible if Bush wasn't talking about using nuclear weapons. Not to mention the depleted uranium that will definitely used. These are weapons that are going to keep on killing people in the most horrible ways, long after the conflict is over.

Comprador bourgeois

30.01.2003 22:43

These people do not represent the Kurdish people, they represent a comprador bourgeoisie that derives its power through imperialism. For many years they have led a parasitic existence sometimes anti-Saddam, sometimes reaching agreements with him but always pro-imperialist. These are the forces who opperated hand in glove with Turkish fascism against the Kurdish people.

Whenever imperialism wants to ratchet up the pressure on Iraq it suddenly 'remembers' the Kurds in a hypocritical display. Never mind the fact that it has been imperialism that always oppressed the Kurdish people through Turkey where the massacres continue, that labelled the PKK 'terrorist', and cynically encouraged the risings at the end of the last Gulf War.

No-one should be taken in by imperialism cloaked in the guise of human rights because it is the opposite of human rights.

us liberators fund kurdish massacres

interesting that the US cares so much about Saddam gassing Kurds with weapons they gave him. Over the last couple if decades Turkey has been conducting a brutal genocide of its Kurdish population, using weapons given to them by US, with training given to them by US and with US support and a total media blackout on their crimes from western corporate media.....
Some stats: 50,000 Kurds killed, over 3,000 villages destroyed, 2 to 3 million displaced as well as all kinds of torture, mass rapes etc
Even today people are being jailed for speaking Kurdish, wearing Kurdish colours or giving their children Kurdish names.
THe majority of Kurds want self determination and a united Kurdistan, that would mean TUrkey giving up land with great natural resources. That is one of the reasons why after the last Gulf War the US allowed Saddam to continue ruling with his 'iron fist'
