ISM provocateurs

Sam | 30.01.2003 12:36

The International Solidarity Movement which is a group of anti Israel activists, are continuing to stir up conflict in the territories to gain publicity. People should be aware of their real intentions.

Today two members of ISM, a pro Palestinian organisation in the West Bank, moved onto land surrounding the Jewish settlement of Itamar in a deliberate act of provocation. Itamar is the scene of numerous terrorist attacks by Palestinian extremists in the past that have resulted in the murder of residents.

These activists were picked up by the IDF and are currently in detention near Salfit.

International organizations like ISM are actually used by the Palestinians to instigate conflict with their Jewish neighbors. The ISM might sound like a very nice group of sweet people but are often a group of provocateurs

Palestinians often send foreigners into the no man's land to provoke Israeli residents, who have been targeted by terrorists and whose suspicions are aroused when they observe people in the prohibited area. This often results in violent incidents which can be filmed and photographed for propoganda purposes.

it's a dirty war, but this is the least of it

Even if what you say is true, then this kind of clever trick and minor provocation with the aim of publicising this war is nothing compared to the actions of government for whom killing people and bulldozing houses counts as election campaigning.

ISM

Hi
Yeah ISM volunteers standing with ambulances to risking their health and potentially lives in order that Palestinians can get vital medicines, for example, is all the proof i need to convince me that they are 'really' terrorists...
Perhaps you might want to look at the conditions that the Zionists impose on the Palestinians if you want a serious answer to why NON-VIOLENT PEACE internationals go to Palestine..

The 'Provocation' charge

30.01.2003 13:13

What a bizzare piece of reasoning - foreign nationals, putting themselves into position that, if they were Palestinian, would not be filmed/noticed by the world press/defended by the West, are 'provoking' violence. It sounds a bit like the 'she was asking for it' defence in rape trials, frankly. This article does not deny that violence is taking place, and does not claim that Palestinians are the worse off for it - simply that members of a peaceful protest movement are putting themselves on the line deliberately, and being encouraged to do so by the people whose human rights they are trying to secure, or bring to the notice of those who would otherwise overlook it. For the record, this is most people's understanding of exactly what the ISM do - it was certainly the impression I got when I read about them in the media, and nothing that I have read here has changed my mind. Of course they are 'deliberately' putting themselves in harm's way - they are doing so on the grounds that this is exactly what ordinary Palestinians have to face on a daily basis. The annoyance in this article appears to stem from the fact that ISM members actions are proving an embarassing problem to the Israeli forces, and drawing attention to exactly what is going on. What is it that you don't understand?
