any chance of a proper link?

25.01.2003 22:21

as at 22.20 BST 25 Jan 03 the humanshields.com link just goes to one of those holding pages.

i guess you've been really busy on the practical stuff but there's no sense giving out a web address that aint moved in yet.

bobby

proper link

25.01.2003 22:42

Considering that the photo of the bus has the web address of www.humanshields.ORG I would assume that the .com version was a typo and that bobby over looked it somehow!

MASSIVE respect to all at the human shields project!!
My only reservation/fear is that the USA/UK will ignore any "non-patriots" in Iraq when the bombing starts and that they will be added to the list of casualties. I strongly suspect that the Americans will issue a single 'get out of the country' warning and anyone who ignores it will be deemed to be either doing so at their own risk or seen as a supporter of Saddam.

I hope you all have a safe journey and that your message is heard.

Human shield wont stop the war!

26.01.2003 00:03

Human shields wont stop the war and are extremely stupid as they might get killed! They would do more good by trying to stop the war at home through militant direct action and civil disobedience.

Re: Human shield wont stop the war!

It depends upon how many go. If everybody who opposed the war went to Iraq, there is no way on earth that the US could bomb the country.
As for the shields being 'stupid', I think they've realised there may be casualties, but they've chosen to go anyway. That's called bravery in my book.
If you don't want to go, that's fine, but don't attack those who have.

mark

Good luck to you!

26.01.2003 10:30

Does Harlequin ever do anything other than criticise people?

I think you're all incredibly brave (if a little crazy) and I wish you all the luck in the world - you're going to need it.

Disillusioned kid

this is brilliant!

26.01.2003 12:48

Harlequin is completely wrong, your mission is already a huge success. Faced with the power that the warmongers hold, any anti-war action will always be symbolic - including direct action and civil disobedience.
The human shields mission is already a huge success, because it is getting widely reported in the media. It is an immensely powerful symbol for how determined the antiwar movement is. And it exposes the fundamentally racist nature of our society: Western lives are more valuable. We in the West would be prepared to accept hundreds of thousands Iraqis to die - 500'000 Iraqi children have already died in the last decade. But as soon as a few hundred wealthy white guys might die, the media will go wild. We need justice for all.

Praise and respect deserved and warmly given

Any peaceful action that raises the profile of anti-war sentiment and gets people thinking beyond corporate headlines is surely worthwhile?

I get a sore bum just catching the bus to the shops. This lot are going all the way to Baghdad! With luck their amazing journey will be greeted across Europe, by the people and the media.

They deserve our thanks and support.

I can't thank you enough

27.01.2003 01:56

I can’t thank you enough. I have family in Iraq and my family and I outside Iraq are very worried about them. Love to you all.

Haidar

What will stop the war?

27.01.2003 12:15

I support the human shields mission. I think it is an action of the greatest human and ethical value. If those guys will be able to stop the war, I don't know. It much depends how many people will join them: if there is a mass migration of western people to Iraq, as Ken O'Keefe hopes, it might become really difficult for USA - UK to bomb. But even a few dozens people are enough to embarass the governments enormously. Mind that about 50 people from Voices in the Wilderness are in Iraq already, independently from the human shield mission, and they are also determined to stay whatever happens, in support of thier Iraqui brothers and sisters. I'm getting my passport ready, but I also think it's very important to do things in this country, to stop Blair from going to war. Mass action and mass protest can achieve that, I hope to see more of those!

chiara

Go get 'em....

27.01.2003 12:53

Harlequin ought to put his money where his mouth is and get his/her arse down to Parliament and disrupt the War Cabinet with a stink bomb - at least!

I'll watch for you on the "news" being detained with the Asylum Seekers, indefinitely, under the new Terrorism Act.

The Human Sheild's are making a poignant statement by their actions... God Speed.

humanshields REPORT - (No. 001) from PARTY

REPORT - (No. 001) from PARTY

The first short report from the travelling group on the first convoy.

Update On the Road - 26th January 2003 (18.00hrs GMT)

We've arrived in Paris! No major hiccups, the buses are running well and spirits are high.

The diversity of people aboard this first wave of human shields is very cool. In terms of the trip to Baghdad this aspect is potentially one of the most rewarding. We come from such a wide range of backgrounds and, naturally, we have much to talk about.

Rajia, our resident British Palestinian hairdresser, has ensured that all girls onboard are looking their spunkiest. Unfortunately Rajia has run out
of willing females and fully intends to make all boys pretty. We'll keep you posted on this unfolding drama.

We left from London with three double-decker buses and we're already living on top of each other. Once we've picked up everyone through Europe it's
going to be quite a squeeze.

One thing's for sure: it's going to be very hard to say goodbye to these people when the time comes.

Those mad dogs and englishmen might save a life or two. The war against Iraq is nonsense. Weapons are already on the market. Good luck in your peace effort.

I am a prisoner of war in the United States. Everything meant to protect and serve the poor is gone. The poorer 90% who do not agree with the tyrants dictates are silenced through numerous methods, but primarily a corrupt legal system and governmental system.

Take some Amanita Muscaria, extract the redness with hot water, and let it simmer in the sky, as the parasols of death are next and the current elitist corporate regime of America is going to kill us all. Send the warning in bright red when the wind is calm.

Red Sky Filled With Blood..Precursor..Muscari

It appears that the Amanita Muscaria red haze was not needed to exemplify the frailty of human blood in its little contraptions, like the Bathroom Tiled Hell known as America's space shuttle.

The pic is the pic of the shuttle from Space bursting into blood red, streaking first, am-an-ita maybe second, and of course the hell unleashed by ignorant and greedy world elite.
