Edinburgh: Solidarity Picket Plasters Spanish Consulate

typewriter | 24.01.2003 12:48 | Repression

This is a short summary of the Solidarity picket for jailed Anarchist Prisoners jailed in Spain.

Supporters of jailed anarchists covered the Spanish Consulate in Edinburgh with posters denouncing Spanish state repression during a solidarity picket on 23rd January. For 2 hours all Consulate visitors and passers-by were handed leaflets demanding freedom for the three activists still in prison.
The three, all from Valencia, face possible long jail sentences under trumped-up "terrorist" accusations.

Their supporters state:
"In Valencia repression against political dissidents and grassroots social movements is becoming a common thing; the arrest of these four activists, the eviction of squats including "Malas Pulgas" where they were also involved, illegal home searches by the police, harassment towards solidarity groups.....It is a very long list. For all those reasons we are here today."

We want to say loudly that Enough is Enough!

We demand the immediate release of the three activists still in prison!

We demand that the Spanish State stop all repression against grassroots social movements!"

This was the 3rd such protest in recent months at the Consulate at 63 North Castle Street in Edinburgh’s New Town.
