How kind of Georgie-boy to promise to do such a nice thing...as you can see it has alreasy been decided who gets to rule the oil-industry after the war (and that is the war that Britain is not going to join, even if 1/4 of their army goes to the gulf...)

U.S. Promises to Hold Iraqi Oil 'In Trust'

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) promised that a U.S. military occupation would hold Iraq's oilfields "in trust" for the Iraqi people.

In an interview with U.S. newspapers on Tuesday, released by the State Department on Wednesday, Powell said the Bush administration was studying different models for managing the Iraqi oil industry if the United States invades.

"If we are the occupying power, it will be held for the benefit of the Iraqi people and it will be operated for the benefit of the Iraqi people," he said.

"How will we operate it? How best to do that? We are studying different models. But the one thing I can assure you of is that it will be held in trust for the Iraqi people, to benefit the Iraqi people. That is a legal obligation that the occupying power will have," he added.

Powell said the U.S. military would not want to run Iraq for long after a possible invasion but he declined to speculate how long U.S. troops would stay in the country.

"There is no desire for the United States armed forces to remain in charge or to run a country for any length of time beyond that which is necessary to make sure that there is an appropriate form of government to take over from the initial military occupation," he said. Just as the American oil industry is held for the benefit of the American people and is operated for the benefit of the American people no doubt.

At least they admit they are invading a foreign territory, that they indend to occupy by military force. That's a war crime, according to International Law.

Hey Colin Powell!

How do you define"appropriate form of government" for Iraq? VERY LIKELY the true answer to that question is: Anything that is acceptable to corporate America(especially the oil corporations). As Colin Powell well knows, Americans GOTTA drive their SUVs! So which dictator is Big Oil going to pick for Iraq, Colin?

Think they did already say what the first stage would be in administering Iraq for the benefit of it's people. It's their General Tommy Franks shall be supreme commander of Mesopotamia. Surely as soon as they find an Arab puppet that's willing to suck George W.'s noodle they'll install him in a similar way to how they did that Karzai fellow in Afghanistan. Strange by the way how the papers are not so very keen anymore on reporting about the `progress' that human rights have made in that country recently...
