"GM Public Debate" meeting held...in private...!

GM Food News | 20.01.2003 21:46 | Bio-technology | London

A meeting of the "GM Public Debate" Steering Board, normally held in public, is being held in private, with no public access allowed...

The "GM Public Debate" Steering Board meeting for 21 January 2003 has suddenly changed from being open to the public to being...private!

The minutes of the previous meeting (17 December 2002) here:

 http://www.gmpublicdebate.org.uk/minutes/minutes_17122002.htm

state:

"The next steering board meeting would be held on 21 January at the New Connaught Rooms, 61-65 Great Queen Street, Covent Garden, London WC2B 5DA. It would be open to the public to observe."

Yet this page on the "GM Public Debate" website:

 http://www.gmpublicdebate.org.uk/minutes/index.htm

was changed at 10:39 on the morning of 20 January 2003 (just one day before the meeting) to say:

"PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MEETING WILL NOW TAKE PLACE IN PRIVATE AND WILL NOT BE OPEN TO MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC TO OBSERVE (THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING WILL BE PUBLISHED IN DUE COURSE)"

I wonder what the "GM Public Debate" Steering Board has to hide...?!

Hope this is of interest.
