Present were royal marines, complete with crow bar, large bolt croppers and video camera. At one point the police said they were going to get MOD police to cut the girls out of the lockon tubes, but in the end they dragged the girls into police vans while they were still locked on together as you can see.

Many people including some with drums came to support the girls in the blocking of the second gate, but police pushed them back.

This was all in marked contrast to police behaviour on the main gate, where they took around 5 hours to carefully cut out the six or so people who had locked on in front of the main gate...

Towards the end of the main gate blockade there was discussion about splitting the crowd to re-block the second side gate as well. It was thought there was not enough people to do this. However many campaigners said that in future blockades (as there will surely be others) the 2nd gate should have as much importance attached to it as the main one.
