GLASGOW UNI PERSECUTES ANARCHISTS - help us fight back!
Glasgow Anarchist Students | 20.01.2003 18:08 | Repression
Shortly before Christmas, some Glasgow University students staged a 21 hour occupation of the Adam Smith Lecture Theatre on campus. Our demands were: 1)An end to the Universities Superannuation Scheme's investment in unethical companies such as BAE systems; 2)For the Principal to resign; and 3)To chuck the army off campus.
Now three of us are up in front of the uni disciplinary court, who have the power expel us.
The hearing is at 9.45am on Friday 24th January at No 10 The Square, Glasgow Uni. A solidarity demo is gathering beforehand at 9.30am, outside Hillhead Underground. Anyone who wants to come along and support us would be greatly appreciated!
The three of us on trial are anarchists - easy targets maybe for the first stage of a wider clamping down on political activity at Glasgow Uni. Let's stop them from killing the student activist movement by teaching them a lesson they won't forget.
Cheers,
Glasgow Anarchist Students

As for the respondant's suggestion that talking about a wider clampdown was a hysterical reaction: the original post was not meant to suggest that any student in a political group would automatically be expelled from university. We are not into scaremongering. That point was merely to link up the struggle of three anarchists, whose politics will not be agreed with by everyone who uses this site, to the future of the wider direct action movement.
If people like me make you ashamed to be a Glasgow Uni graduate, I can only say that people like you make me ashamed to be a Glasgow Uni student. Anarchists are *not* stupid, lazy dropouts. We are simply people who, due to our much-misunderstood beliefs, are saddled with all those labels by "respectable" members of the community.

You seem like really brave and moral people and I support your cause against bribed/fascist/frightened (whatever they might be) university authorities. It's good that someone stands up for solidarity, peace and human rights in these crazy times of war, revenge and madness. Be strong and don't give up, there are many of us who support you.
