As many will be aware by now, David Icke has been served with a libel action by one of the most active opponents of his right to freedom of speech and the right of the people to hear and read what he says.
Richard Warman is a member of the Ontario Green Party and, take a deep breath, a human rights lawyer with the Canadian government's Human Rights Commission. He has campaigned for years to stop David's public events in both North America and the United Kingdom, and has publicly been quoted as campaigning for David's books to be "seized and incinerated." Pointing out in Children of the Matrix that such actions were also taken by the Nazi regime in Germany against books they did not want people to read is, apparently, "libellous".
Mr. Warman has publicly dubbed David as a writer of anti-Semitic hate material and a "hatemonger". One of Mr. Warman's most outrageous quotes - remember he is a "human rights lawyer" with the Canadian government - was in the UK Independent on Sunday magazine on October Ist 2000. Speaking of David and those who listen to him, Mr. Warman said:
"He has taken all the conspiracy theories that ever existed and melded them together to create an even greater conspiracy of his own. His writings may be the work of a madman, or of a genuine racist. Either way they are very dangerous. There is an unpleasant anti-Semitic undertone in his work that must be brought to public attention. If he's unstable then so are his followers, who hang on his every word. What benefit can there be in allowing him to speak?"
I wonder if you find that as chilling as we do. Silly as people may understandably believe Mr. Warman's claims of libel to be, the legal system is enormously expensive and Bridge of Love is a publisher that only publishes David's books. In doing so it has to constantly find money for reprints when it receives only a fraction of cover price some 90 to 120 days after a book is sold in a shop. This alone presents enormous cash-flow problems and it has often been a serious struggle to keep the books available, never mind launching new ones.
Therefore, the costs of defending this action in Ontario, Canada, are going to be very difficult to meet because it doesn't matter how ridiculous you may believe such an action to be, it still costs a great deal of money to defend it. Before too long David's books could cease to be available without external support for legal costs.
We are asking visitors to this website if they would consider supporting David by contributing to a fund to meet the legal costs and ensure that David's books and information stay in circulation, especially at this crucial time for all our freedoms. If he is left to do this alone, his life's work will be seriously threatened and his books will disappear from circulation - which, of course, is what Richard Warman has said he wants.
If everyone who visits this website contributed just a few dollars, the cost of a couple of beers, to David's defense fund, it would ease the burden enormously, but anything that people believe it is right to contribute would be greatly appreciated.
