Global anti war actions on Gulf War anniversary Jan 17-19th
Activists from Voices in the Wilderness UK, ARROW and the D10 group will this weekend join activists from at least 23 countries around the world in protesting against the proposed war on Iraq. The protests have been called to mark the 12th anniversary of the last major US assault on Iraq in 1991.
Actions have been called in Argentina, the USA, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Pakistan, Australia, Egypt, Belgium, Spain, Canada, Italy, France, Japan, Indonesia, Britain, Germany, Austria, Russia, the Phillipines,Switzerland, Bahrain and South Korea.
In the UK activists will take part in a weekend of nonviolent direct action and protest at Britain's military HQ at Northwood, NW London, including a blockade on Sunday 11 am and a mass breach of the Official Secrets Act on Saturday at 12 pm.
In France, demonstrations involving over 40 organizations will march on the National Assembly and the Elysee Palace in Paris and in Beauvais on Saturday January 18.
In Germany there will be a blockade of Rhein-Main airbase Frankfurt on 17 January and demonstrations in Bonn, Heidelberg.
In Washington DC, 500,000 marchers are expected in the biggest US anti war demonstration since the Vietnam war.
In Argentina the Mothers of the Plazo del Mayo have called a demonstration on Thursday, Jan. 16, from the Plaza Italia
to the U.S. Embassy.
In Ecuador there will be demonstrations outside the US Embassy in Quito and the UN HQ there.
In Pakistan a coalition of secular, democratic and pro-socialist parties will demonstrate Jan. 18 in Lahore in front of the U.S. Consulate, in response to a message from the Asian Peace Forum.
In Belgium the Stop USA (United States of Aggression) Coalition will
demonstarte in Brussels Sunday Jan 19.
