GATS demo in Brussels 9.2.03

World Development Movement | 13.01.2003 17:56

GATS demo in Brussels
On Sunday 9 February, GATS campaigners from all over Europe are meeting in
Brussels to demonstrate their concerns about GATS to the European Heads of
Government meeting there that day. This is the first European-wide
demonstration on GATS, so it is important that there is a strong presence
there from the UK.

Many apologies for the short notice. At the last minute this event moved
from mid-March to 9 February, following discussions with trade unions in
Belgium.

We have investigated coach travel to Brussels but unfortunately it is too
long a journey to get there and back in a day.

The good news is that it is possible to travel there by train on Eurostar or
on flights with Ryanair. WDM is hoping to be able to make a block booking
on both the train and aeroplane to reduce the cost of travel for each person
and allow WDMers to travel together. The exact details of each of these
options are below. Please have a look at them urgently so that you can let
us know if and how you want to travel with the group by midday on Wednesday
15 January.

Travelling by train on Eurostar
Out Sunday 9 Feb leaving Waterloo at 0814 (arriving at 1210)
In Sunday 9 Feb leaving at 1756 (arriving at approximately
8.30pm)
Cost £85 per person

Travelling by aeroplane with Ryanair
Out Sunday 9 Feb leaving at 0755 (arriving at 0955)
In Monday 10 Feb leaving at one of the following times:
0640/1305/1550/1945 (There isn't a return flight in Sunday)
Cost £21.29 per person, including taxes

This price does not include travel to and from Stansted Airport or from the
airport in Brussels to the city centre. This is approximately an extra
£27.

If you do want to travel with the WDM group:

(1) Please contact the Campaigns Team on 020 7274 7630 or by email to
 campaigns@wdm.org.uk.

(2) We will need your full name, address and contact details.

(3) Please tell us if you want to travel by train or plane.

(4) If you want to travel by aeroplane we will also need to know which
flight you want to return on and if you want us to book your youth hostel
accommodation for Sunday night in Brussels (less than £15 approx). The
flight prices at the moment are exceedingly low for this trip because it is
an internet deal. We are hoping that by booking everyone's flights in one
go the price will stay low. If it increases by £20 (to £42.29) we will
assume that is ok with you, unless you tell us otherwise.

(5) Lastly, WDM is willing to subsidise your travel to this event by up to
£20 per person if necessary. Please contact us about this.

Looking forward to hearing from you by midday on Wednesday 15 January!

Thanks,
Polly Jones
