OUR FISHING industry can survive and prosper, but only if Britain leaves the European Union.

BNP offers hope in fishing industry's darkest hour

OUR FISHING industry can survive and prosper, but only if Britain leaves the European Union. That was the stark message that came from BNP Deputy Chairman, Scott McLean, on the news that more than 6,000 fish processing jobs in Scotland will be lost if European Commission plans to ban the catching of white fish go ahead.
Mr McLean told Freedom;
"The processing sector employs 10,000 people across Scotland, but a ban on catching local whiting and haddock would devastate the industry. The only jobs that would survive will be at factories processing imported fish from Faroe and Iceland.

"Britain owns 80% of the marine resources in Europe but, because of the EU's Common Fisheries Policy, British fleets are only allowed to fish in 12% of our own waters. This has decimated our fishing fleet and now this once thriving industry is on the verge of extinction.

"Of course our stocks of cod need to be preserved. British scientists lead the field in marine husbandry and if we were back in control of British waters all that expertise could be put to good effect.

"Our fishing industry doesn't stand a chance as long as foreign fishing fleets are given access to our waters."

The north-east of Scotland will be hardest hit but the ban and with ten jobs ashore being lost for every one at sea, the grounding of Scottish fleets will have a devastating effect on the local economy.

Since 1973 both Conservative and Labour Governments have gradually handed over control of our fishing fleet to bureaucrats in Brussels. They have given away a vital national resource to foreign power control and then stood by while British fisherman were denied access to this valuable natural resource. Today, all three main parties have pledged Britain's future to the European Union. By doing so they have condemned the British fishing industry to extinction.

Only the British National Party will take Britain out of the EU and return Britain's seas our our fishermen.
