Petition demanding Israel return funds deducted from Palestinians for unemployme

DWRC | 19.12.2002 09:48

Since 1967 the state of Israel deducted funds from Palestinian workers for unemployment insurance. To this day, no Palestinian worker has received unemployment payments. Please sign this petition demanding that Israel return these funds to Palestinian workers who have paid for these benefits. Conservative estimates put unemployment at over 55% in the occupied territories. These funds are badly needed by the tens of thousands of families of workers who had millions of dollars deducted from their salaries.

To: The government of Israel

We, the undersigned, demand that the Israeli government, particularly the Israeli Ministry of Labor and the Israeli military forces:
• respect the right to work of Palestinian workers living in the occupied territories and allow them to return to their workplaces in Israel, open roads and lift military checkpoints to allow workers to return to their workplaces in Palestinian localities
• protect Palestinian workers from torture and harassment by Israeli extremists and soldiers and to protect their right to life
• return funds deducted for decades by the Israeli government for the unemployment fund from the salaries of Palestinian workers who were employed in Israel and who have never received any unemployment benefits
