Feeling repressed? breathe easy...

Argentina during the 77-83 dictatorship, approximately 30 000 people went missing and are still missing today, an act carried out by the military government of the time in order to repress people who were making political dissent.

On Thursday in Buenos Aires, there was a demonstration of support against repression suffered by the people of this country in the military dictatorship of 1977-83. Political groups from asembleas to piqueteros, to socialist political parties turned out for a large gathering to show respect and solidarity for the ‘mothers’ and families of the victims.

In this time of repression , people apparently would just disappear, some being taken away by the military and some simply not existing any longer. From stories I heard it was not only political organisers that were taken but also direct relatives or children or lovers of political organisers or thinkers. This has the affect now of maintaining this feeling of repression in the country and within the people to the extent that many believe it is possible that this could happen again. Along with the 35 or so people that were assassinated in the popular uprising last year and the two others killed in June, people have some really fear of repression in this country when it comes to heaving or wanting or expressing the right or protest and organise against or outside of the powers that are existing in the country.

The protest is of particular importance and significance in this time because next week marks the one year anniversary of the uprising of the last year. It is expected that there again will be a large march in solidarity for those who have lost their lives and also to demonstrate and confirm in the government that there is pressure her against their slack and often corrupt governing.

When possible organise solidarity and support in your town of Melbourne if you will and come out in support of this popular social change that is occurring here, and occurring without much recognition in the large part of the rest of the world. All those opposed to the capitalist unfair raping of this planet and it’s people would do well to keep an eye on this continent, come out in support and assist if you can in an uprising that is occurring.
