Wednesday 11th december...Hackney Council have suspended the Joint Branch secretaies of Unison, Brian Debus and Will Leng, on the grounds they sent out an email that the council said broke the Code of Conduct..they wouldn't specify how. John Page, the ex-branch secretary was also suspended, for his role in a document on the continuing problem of corporate racism in the council.
This is an attack not only on the work Unison and the local Unison Black Workers Group were doing to confront corporate racism in Hackney , but also on Unison and it's attempts to defend it's members and the services in Hackney itself. Because Unison has been the opposition in the council to the ongoing attacks on workers Terms and Conditions and the relentless cuts in services the council have been trying repeatedly to sideline them.
The branch has quickly reorganised to make sure that day to day work can continue.
All support to the Unison Office at Hillman Street and letters of protest to the Town Hall.
