03/12/2002 Edinburgh Central FBU Support Group
Agenda
Statement of Aims and Principles
As a support group we aim to maximise pressure on the government and support for the fire-fighters in the pursuit of fair pay by creating a structure that facilitates the involvement of all those who want to support the fire-fighters. In line with this we call for broad-based FBU support groups to be set up based on geographical constituencies, each having their own geographical name. e.g. Edinburgh North and Leith FBU support group, Edinburgh East and Musselburgh FBU support group etc, etc. The support groups should be broad-based, non-sectarian and centred on the issue of support for the fire-fighters.
Each support group to have its own name, co-ordinator, banner, bank account and local activities in support of the nearest fire station. For large one -off events such as public rallies we agree to co-operate on this.
Each support group to have its own local support group solidarity newsletter with one agreed individual taking the responsibility for collating and producing articles.(This should not be a substitute for an FBU Strike bulletin).
Each support group to have a proper assessment of skills and delegation of responsibility based on these skills.
Each support group to keep a list of contact addresses and an e-mail database . It should be reported to the FBU strike committee who is collecting for the FBU
That we agree in principle to have a Lothians and Borders Support group website.
Trades council to produce a leaflet giving legal advice guidance on checking on fire safety at work and refusing to work if adequate fire cover is not available.
