What will be the price of Blair government's refusal to listen to us on Iraq?

Rayban Prophet | 03.12.2002 22:12

The attack on Iraq will take place within one of the next two dark phases of the moon after December 8 irrespective of British public opinion and even of the opinions of Labour backbenchers. What will be the long term price?

The attack on Iraq will take place within one of the next two dark phases of the moon after December 8 irrespective of British public opinion and even of the opinions of Labour backbenchers. As with Gulf War I, they will seek to send in ground troops when the moon is completely absent from the night sky, since it is in night fighting that the American-British stormtroopers will have the greatest technical advantages.

What will the consequences be for British democracy? Public opinion has consistently opposed this war, despite the governments efforts to massage and terrorize it into support. The support for this murderous attack, which will kill tens of thousands of innocent civilians, and will leave a legacy of depleted uranium which will cause birth deformities for generations, is lukewarm among Labour backbenchers (cowards though they be, by and large). Even in the Cabinet there are serious reservations raised. What impact will this attack have on people who have faithfully attempted to use the levers of democratic pressure, successfully pressing their members of parliament to take a stand, only to see the oily government whips and speakers ignoring them? What impact will the use of the royal prerogative have on the rise of a real anti-monarchist current? What will people do when the autocratic monster hiding within the British constitution shows his ugly face, when the politics of democracy fail?

Those who start wars rarely understand or control the ultimate consequences. When will they ever learn?

03.12.2002 22:39

MASS WEAPONS INSPECTION OF USAF FAIRFORD.
DATE & TIME: Saturday 14th December. 12:00 - 5:00pm
The Gloucestershire Weapons Inspectors are coming:

********************************************

NOT IN OUR NAME - NOT FROM OUR LAND.
AT LEAST 10 TOWNS & CITIES ARE SO FAR INVOLVED.
SPREAD THE WORD.

"One day, your children will have to explain this to ours."
GAZWAN, IRAQI CITIZEN.
(due to be carpet bombed from British soil)

Bristol-Stop-The-War have called a de-facto NATIONAL DEMO of USAF Fairford (Gloucestershire) in response to it's use by US Stealth Bombers which will be used to carpet bomb Iraqi cities. The public have repeatedly made clear we oppose this war, yet our government has the audacity to invite these weapons of mass destruction into our country.

"I put 'terrorist' in quotes because its definition is subjective, & I myself used to be in the Marine Corps, part of the most powerful 'terrorist' organization on the planet."
CHRIS WHITE, EX-MARINE SERGEANT.

AGENDA FOR THE DAY
a) Coaches drop off at Fairford Village at 12.00. Meet at the Main gate by 12:30 (as the Village is small it should be possible to meet up for a short march to the Main gate. We hope to agree a place in the village to meet, but groups should make their way to the Airbase if this isn't finalised.)
b) We will then have the Gloucestershire Weapons Inspectors
request entry ( http://www.gwi.org.uk), followed by open mic
speakers until 2:30 by megaphone. Please feel free to provide speakers (hopefully everyone will get a turn). Please bring Megaphones for general effect & for back-up.
c) The plan after 2:30 is to 'circle' the base, & hold a candlelit vigil finishing at 5:00, with a candlelit procession back into the Village. As the base has a 10 mile perimeter a full encirclement isn't possible, but footpaths run down the sides of the Base, & Individuals should decide for themselves how far to venture into them. Others who just wish to line the road along the Main gate are free to do so. Please bring fire-lighters.
d) Coaches pick up at the Village at 5:30. Groups which wish to leave earlier (or later) are welcome to do so. It's suggested that groups that wish to leave earlier should do so after the open mic session at 2:30. This would avoid a slow dissipation, & would still give us a defined finish at 5:00
PLEASE BRING VIDEO CAMERAS.

THIS MAY BE OUR LAST 'PEACE-TIME' OPPORTUNITY TO
SHOW CLEAR PUBLIC OPPOSITION TO THIS WAR.

DIRECTIONS
Fairford is 10 miles north of Swindon & 20 miles west of Oxford. Fairford is on the A417 going east to west. Or along the A361 going north to south, turning onto the A417 at Lechlade village. USAF Fairford is 10 minutes walk from Fairford Village, & should be clearly signposted.

The Catalyst

03.12.2002 22:41

The response of the people of so called democracies around the world to the realisation that they live in totally undemocratic societies will be a powerful one. We have seen this time and time again in history when the truth of our society is revealed to us, usually in the advent of war, we stand up and fight for true freedom. I am sure, if the superpowers continue with this illegal war, that the growing pockets of resistance around the world will once again unite to fight the unfair system that breeds both war and terrorism, perhaps this time we can resist the systems attempt to commercialise and so devalue our resistance, and see through to the end the revolution that is long overdue.

Just a thought.

everybody is entitle to wage war

04.12.2002 23:03

If Blair or Bush do not listen to their people I think we are justify to declare war to our enemies Blair and Bush.
We are entitle to dismantle the capitalist system. When the system was ever voted for? I do not remember that I was asked to vote if I want capitalism or not.
We should fight back.

there will be an actual financial cost too

07.12.2002 13:29

the downside iof the so-called special relationship between GB and USA is that GB will be asked to share the cost of the USA invasion. in fact, this uncomfortable possiblitiy was being discussed on the early morning radio financial slots a few days ago.
a typical example goes back to the 1920s. Trotsky of all people (please bear with me on this) was considering the way that the USA in the 1920s was pressurising GB to give up some of its far- eastern outposts. also undwer pressure from Japan, Trotsky suggested that GB would have to side with one, or the other. If GB sided with the proposed USA arrangement, he predicted, it would ''put Britiain on rations for 20 years''. he wrote that in the 1920s, long before anyone was thinking about a new war, and sure enough, after 1940 GB did indeed join the USA, and rations stayed in place until the late 1950s...
