Credit cards in retail rampage SHOCKER (with pictures)....

On Friday 29th Nov, otherwise known as International Buy Nothing Day, shoppers in Plymouth were exposed to a barage of street theatre and alternative 'commerical radio'.

Giant credit cards ran around the shops encouraging consumers to "buy more sparkly things" while their 'owners' complained that their spending was getting out of control. At other times, a shopping trolley was pushed around carrying a slick salesperson who attempting to sell bemused shoppers the products 'joy' and 'junk'.

Further street theatre included people simply 'not shopping' and just laying down relaxing on the pavement while others placed giant credit cards in the 'cage' of an upturned shopping trolley and warned passers-by of the dangers of going to close.

During the whole day, a sound system pumped out a specially prepared 'radio show' that contained spoof ads and information about consumerism and it's effects. Other propaganda included free 'buy nothing cards' which entitled the bearer to enjoy not buying anything for one whole day.

Also handed out were leaflets and fake receipts downloaded and printed from resources provided on www.buynothingday.co.uk

The UK's buy nothing day is actually November 30th, so if you like the sound of what we got upto, you can do it yourself on Saturday...
