Pentagon to Track American Consumer Purchases

The American government is planning to build a database of every purchase made by every consumer as part of it's 'war on terror'
The database would integrate with the massive amount of data already available through mobile phones, credit card, cash card, police records etc. The project is being lead by Rear Admiral John Poindexter, former national security advisor to Ronald Reagan who was convicted of 5 counts of misleading congress and making false statements as part of the Iran-Contra scandal.
Chuck Pena, senior defense policy analyst at the Cato Institute, says "What this is talking about is making us a nation of suspects and I am sorry, the United States citizens should not have to live in fear of their own government and that is exactly what this is going to turn out to be,......I don't think once you put something like this in place, you can ever create enough checks and balances and oversight,"
