The far-right BNP have taken a council seat in Blackburn, Lancashire
in a by-election surprise to add to three seats it already holds in
the North West.
in a by-election surprise to add to three seats it already holds in
the North West.
Candidate Robin Evans won the Mill Hill seat in Blackburn with a
majority of just 16 votes.
The seat on Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council became vacant after
a Liberal Democrat councillor left the area.
There were angry scenes even before the count took place at the old
town hall in Blackburn.
Between 30 to 40 demonstrators shouted insults at the BNP candidate
and his supporters as they entered the building.
After a tense recount, the BNP took the seat with 578 votes to
Labour's 562, the Lib Dems 505 and the Conservatives 154, with
turnout at 39%.
The election saw Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, MP for Blackburn,
campaigning for Labour.
Blackburn has a large Asian community but has avoided the racial
tensions seen in other parts of northern England.
Politicians, trade unionists and community leaders last month began a
campaign to unseat the BNP's three councillors in Burnley.
Their election came after inter-racial rioting in Burnley and other
towns in the North West in summer last year.
The official report into the violence in June 2001 said organised
white racists had exploited clashes to exacerbate tensions and fears.
It urged the government to tackle "shockingly" divided communities in
Bradford, Burnley and Oldham, which have large British Asian
communities.
But the BNP has said its election success stems from the
marginalisation of white residents by the main political parties.
The four councillors now in office are the BNP's only success on
local councils since the short-lived election of Derek Beackon in
Tower Hamlets, London, in 1993.
A campaign by politicians and activists helped to unseat the
councillor.
Elsewhere on Thursday night, the Tories lost their overall majority
at Dacorum Borough, Hertfordshire, when Labour gained a Woodhall
seat.
Labour narrowly kept its overall majority at Bolton Borough, Greater
Manchester, when it won at Daubhill.

well okay but..

At the moment it looks worryingly like the IWCA just stick in their heartlands in East London and East Oxford (where they are undeniably a force to be reckoned with), criticising ANL strategy from afar. Come on, if you have a better strategy to beat the BNP, when will you start implementing it nationally?

the right talk a good game. they're such experts at it. here in the states, or in germany. hitler was a good talker. he let the germans hear what they wanted to hear, appealed to their pride and nationalism. on and on, they talked such a good game. of course, they don't talk about racist policies, their fetish for uniforms and authority and control, rounding up immigrants, theories about the "higher intelligence" of the white man. that's not what wins them elections.
but then they come to power, after gaining everybody's support by saying what everybody wants to hear. so they feel legitimized. they swell with pride, and start to trot out their other policies, the ones they didn't discuss during their campaigns, like how people who aren't white are "genetically more likely to enjoy causing crime". all the rubbish and bullshit and racism they were too fucking cowardly and weak to talk about in public.
so let's just see if this BNP party actually follows through with it's racist policies. let's see if they're simply weak pussies talking a good game who are afraid to reveal themselves, or real live nazis doing what they do best. two chioces: cowards, or nazis. take your pick, BNP fuckers.
as for the left, it can never seem to get a coherent message accross, or talk a good game if it tried. but at least its heart is on the right side in this battle...

The BNP are just nazis who sweet talk the public, their policies are not at all open, what do you think 18 stands for? 1st letter alphabet is A, 8th letter is H, A.H., Adolf Hitler. The BNP young guy on Young Nazi and Proud also wore a t-shirt which just said 18, and many of the BNP had swastikas tatooed on them. There are claims that that was selective journalism, but even if it was really selective, which tv journalism has to be as it needs to be short, i dont think you'd find a similar report on the left revealing their hatred of jews and non-whites, and their love of hitler and nazis.
theyre racists
