ESF- call for day of action against war?

jo | 19.11.2002 20:35 | European Social Forum

at the european social forum it appeared it was agreed on that there was to be a day of action against the war on 7?th dec since the demo in feb was not soon enough

this was to be a europe wide day of action, does anybody have any idea why this appears to have been forgotten, even on the esf website the next action called for is february unless war breaks out in the meantime. other newswires have talked about the 21st and 31st as possible days of action. Are other groups planning on sticking with the 7th , even if the STWC isn't organising something for whatever reason, some action needs to take place before xmas

At the esf a group of people called a meeting at the stadium we were staying at because we were concerned that February was too late for anti-war actions. We decided to propose Dec 7th as the date for a European wide day of action because it is the day before the deadline for the first stage of the UN resolution.

Because of the way the esf was organised it was impossible to put forward this proposal to the final movement of movements meeting. So the esf did not agree to the 7th as a day of action.

However several hundred individuals and organisations from 10 different countries did express an interest in taking action on the 7th and of forming a European wide network of people who want to take direct action against the war.

An e-group has been set up. Any one who wishes to subscribe can do so by mailing  NDAAW-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

People are still committed to having a day of action on the 7th allbeit on a much smaller scale than if it had been agreed by the full esf.
