An Idea for the Proletarian shopping action on Oxford Street on 21st of December

Harlequin | 18.11.2002 09:32

This is an idea which will cause minimum risk to those taking apart and seriously disrupt business on Oxford Street on the busiest shopping day of the year!

Instead of telling people to shoplift on Oxford Street on Saturday the 21st in solidarity with the people of Argentina we tell people to turn Oxford Street into a giant car boot sale type market where people who have got stuff to sell for under ten pounds such as old clothes go there and fly pitch and people who want to boycott the big capitalist stores can go to find cheap goods for sale from the flypitchers. There are regulary fly pictchers on Oxford Street most busy days selling different types of goods. If this was done as a mass action it would seriously disrupt normal trading on Oxford Street while being of little risk to those taking part!

I don't think so...

It will have no impact whatsoever on the big stores on Oxford Street. Furthermore, the rest of the proletariat will be in the stores consuming as much as they can like the rest of the UK population before Christmas.

Why not do a free shop?

OK, many people think that mass shoplifting might not work on Oxford Street (even though it is feasible in every other city on the planet - see Yomango stuff in spain). There are risks, but we take these every day we cross the road.

OK, so people might not like the idea of fly-pitching to sell cheap items to the public. Why not take it one step further, and fly-pitch FREE stalls. The cops could not charge you with selling stuff without a licence because you are not selling anything.

This is not a long-thought-out political theory, so don't spend hours creating a politically sound rebuttal. I f you lke it, do it, if you don't, don't.

luv and all that jazz
