More pictures of arrests.
[JAYYOUS, QALQILIA] Friday, the Israeli military arrested nine international and one Israeli peace activist after gassing and shooting rounds of live ammunition into a crowd of approximately 200 Palestinian men, women, and children who, accompanied by 30 International volunteers, staged a peaceful protest and sit-in at the site of Israeli destruction of Palestinian agricultural land. One of the activists was deported Saturday morning, the others are awaiting trial 'pending deportation'. The men of the group are held in prison.
From 7:00 AM Palestinian and Internationals gathered on land with the utmost determination to stop the uprooting of Palestinian olive trees carried out by Israeli government-contracted bulldozers. At 11:30 AM the Palestinians conducted Friday prayers on the land being destroyed, under the rifles of Israeli soldiers. At 12:30 PM Israeli soldiers began to fire tear gas, sound bombs, rubber-coated steel bullets, and live ammunition at a crowd which included many women and children. International and Israeli peace activists stepped in the way of the Israeli soldiers who were firing bullets at the Palestinian running away from the tear gas. At this point the Israeli soldiers grabbed the peace activists, tried to take away their cameras and any other evidence that showed the Israeli soldiers’ violent behavior. Many activists were hit with the butts of the soldiers’ rifle. One, Esther Serra, was tortured when an Israeli soldier pinned her down and poured water over her face after she had been tear gassed (water inflames the tear gas and worsens the effect on the skin). Canadian national Thomas Linner has been beaten very badly by the Israeli soldiers and requires medical attention. The arrested activists have been taken to Tsufim military base near Qalqilya.
The activists that have been arrested are as follows:
Two Irish nationals (Michael McGrath and Charlotte Carson); one Canadian national (Thomas Linner); one Swedish national (Ole Martin); one UK national (Cary Gibbons); one Spanish national (Ester Serra); and three American nationals (Susan Barney from Boston, Rodhika Sainath from Los Angeles, a Methodist minister, Reverend Gordon Hutchins, from Minnesota); and Israeli peace activist (Jonathan Pollak).

But what about water, then? Water splashed onto skin will cause the tear gas micro-particles to dissolve, and thereby be able to permeated into the skin more easily. However, water can be used at high power (e.g. from a hose) to wash off the tear gas particles. This is probably where the confusion arises.

WHY ?
Nothing can describe the sense of horror, rapidly followed by outrage, being felt
>in Israel as result of yet another killing spree by Palestinians.
>
>Much wordage has been spilt over which terror group this latest murderer belonged to.
>Apparently, he represented Fatah, which directly implicates Yasser Arafat, as this is
>his personal bunch of killers from years back.
>
>But this in incidental to the nature of the attack perpetrated by a member of the Palestinian
>population on Kibbutz Metzer.
>Part of this killer's rampage included breaking into a house killing a young mother in front
>of her two small children, and then coldly putting a bullet each into the brains of five year old
>Matan and his brother, four year old Noam, as they cowered in their beds.
>(see attached picture).
>
>This act of gross inhumanity is not unique. It is a reprise of similar incidents executed by
>Palestinians.
>These animals are not 'militants'. They do not come wearing uniforms. They are not anonymous
>crazed individuals. They are rank and file Palestinians, doing what they do in the name of Allah.
>They are part of the eight percent that support suicide bombers and 'death to the Jews'.
>They are from the Palestinian street. They ARE the Palestinian population.
>Raised on hate in schools. Aroused to incitement in their mosques. Exhorted to kill on their
>state-run television channels. Trained and sent out on killing missions by the terror groups
>established and supported by Arafat as part of his 'popular uprising'.
>
>This week's murderous attack on Kibbutz Metzer by a child-killer was just one of SIXTEEN
>THOUSAND attacks inflicted on Israel by Palestinians.
>16,000 !!!
>This phenomenon does not indicate sporadic attacks by isolated terror groups acting alone.
>They clearly show a prolonged and concerted campaign by the Palestinian people ably supported
>by their leaders.
>
>The disgust felt in Israel is against the media coverage of this latest carnage.
>"Five people were killed" was how the BBC mentioned the incident, as if they were covering a
>car accident.
>Calling a young mother and her two little children "people" neutralises the impact of the incident.
>Was this done deliberately? You'd better believe it !
>
>The New York Times reported that a Palestinian attack killed five on a Northern kibbutz. Again,
>impersonal and no mention of kids deliberately gunned down.
>Associated Press gave a similar "Five killed in attack on Israeli kibbutz". Read this headline and
>assume that the perpetrator was an Israeli. No mention of Palestinians, or terrorists.
>Sky News, a carrier of regular sympathetic reports on the condition of the Palestinians could
>only call the Palestinian killer a 'shooter'. How bland! How anonymous!
>
>Why do they continue to do this?
>Are they so determined to stubbornly stick to image they have regularly portrayed to their viewers
>and readers that any deviance will cause their public to question what they have been fed for the
>past two years?
>Faced with this wall-to-wall denial of the true facts in their reporting, what can Israel, or Israeli
>supporters do to overcome this bias?
>Sorry! I do not have the answer....
