Widow gets $1.2m from gun firm

A US court has found a gun distributor partly responsible for the death of a teacher who was shot dead by one of his pupils in Florida and awarded his widow $1.2m in damages.
"The purpose of this case was to bring to the public and the legislature that these Saturday night specials have no legitimate purpose whatsoever," said the widow's lawyer,. "I hope that this will be a clarion call to other suppliers and distributors to get that Saturday night special off your shelves."
However the jury decided that the company was only 5% responsible for the death, leading to claims from the gun lobby that this case sets no real precedent for gun manufacturers and distributors liability in other cases.
