MASSIVE PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR FIRE FIGHTERS

Cleo mcwilliams | 15.11.2002 21:47

FIRE FIGHTERS get massive PUBLIC support, for their 2 day strike. Most people feel that the fire fighters DESERVE a pay rise. Unlike the useless RICH new labour/old tory politicians who award themselves massive pay hikes and earn over £60,000 per annum for sitting about talking crap, bullshiting and penny pinching the public purse while recklessly spending millions on luxuries,PR and pointless war mongering.

N.I FIRE FIGHTERS get massive PUBLIC SUPPORT for their 2 day strike. Passing car horns honked in an endless stream of support for striking fire fighters. The ordinary public along Ormeau Avenue, and the Ormeau rd, donated fish and chips, tea and cakes, coal and wood to striking fire fighters manning picket lines in central belfast. The fire fighters most of whom have to work two jobs, in order to make ends meet, because their firefighting wages are so low. Firemen who work anti social hours, doing a dangerous and sometimes distressing job, serving the public tirelessly and bravely deserve a pay rise, in recognition of their skills, dedication and devotion to saving our lives, at great risk to their own. The fire fighters need continuous public support in order to win this strike, we need to give them that support in solidarity. This is one battle thats going to get alot dirtier, we have seen what thatcher and the privateers did to the MINERS, we can't let Blair do the same to the FIREFIGHTERS. If we stick together and stand firm, we can win this one.

i cannot recall a strike being so popular with the public as this one ! as in london, so in ireland, it seems. almost evry car was sounding a horn when it drove past the picket line i went to.
one word of caution; if you recall the fuel tax protest of 2 years ago, first time round, they had the initiative, but when they came back for a second attempt, they'd lost it, enabling the government to move "Cobra" (a corny name for an emergency committee!) into action. i think the firemen may have fallen ito a similar trap, and they may get bitten by the rattlesnakes of "Cobra" next time round.

The firefighters have no public support!

The firefighters have no mass public support. The miners didn't either and they had far more of a case than the firefighters they were striking to defend their jobs the firefighters are just fighting for more pay, for more than the average worker earns!

As a communist I believe that no one should earn more than anyone else! That includes firefighters!

Everyone should earn the same amount!

No you lot are talking bullshit! Why should the firefighters get more than other workers! The ideals of communism are that everyone should earn the same as everyone else!

The fact that people earn different amounts is one of the main reasons for economic collapses because the workers cannot buy back all the goods which they produce! This is because workers are paid less than the value of the goods that they produce.

Paying the firefighters a massive amount wont solve anything or alter the capitalist system one bit! Most of the firefighters are not communists, anti-capitalists or revolutionaries they are just thinking of themselves!

So far our irrepressible hero H has claimed to be a Direct Action peace campaigner (DAAWN), a Trot (Socialist Party), an anti-Trot old-school Menshevik (World Socialism Movement), a pro-farmer lobbyist (NFU, Countryside Alliance) and a really quite angry opponent of the firefighters.. along the way mixing and matching quotes from Marx and Lenin with lines straight out of The Sun and the Daily Mail. Quite impressive in a strange sort of way!

So, hey, anyone up for a bit of Harlequin Banzai?

Which group will Angry Shouty Yet Oddly Unconvincing Activist belong to tomorrow?
