Constructive critisism

You say you are focusing on events around the world, not as bystanders. Sorry, but how is this different from imc? This only further adds to the plethora of different information fora/bulletins out there, I'm afraid, however admirable your new venture may be. I would attach more credibility to "actionforsolidarity" if the remit you set yourself for such an information service had more distinct parameters within which it sought to focus upon (e.g. location, or resriction of postings to either analysis of issues or analysis of the direct action movement's response to issues around the world, and not reports on direct-action campaigns which happen in every shape or form anywhere in the world at any time).

That has what I've sought to do with the Legacy of colonialism forum - just focussing on neocolonialism/imf-wb injustice in regions of the world which were ex-colonial subjects.

Marxist Garbage Analysis

13.11.2002 18:30

Looking at the list of "latest news", I'll be cynical as well and suggest after looking at the array of articles there that there is a faint whiff of bandwagon issue-hijacking (esp with the Firefighters article at the top) - all very reminiscent of the SWP. Usual Marxist garbage analysis underlying it all, no doubt (note the utterly misguided call for a United States of Europe). I can safely say that we can nip this one in the bud! If it is SWP, then this is just more fragmentation of popular dissent through disinformation warfare.

Eee the joys of the left

Its not the SWP. Its the Alliance for Workers Liberty who
are a small group who differ from the SWP mainly around the issue of Palestine.

And they don't think socialists should work with Muslims to
achieve common aims such as anti-war coalition. The Alliance for Workers Liberty believe that Muslim organisations are homo-phobic and oppress women. In my
opinion this is racist and treats members of the Muslim
community with contempt. Islam is a large faith with many
different facets. It is not one monolithic force without
contradiction. Islamic faith in a country is bound up with
that countries culture, economic development and experience
in relation to Imperialism. There are also social movements
and a history of activism within Islam which AWL completely
ignores in their analysis of Muslim organisations. For
example, the strength and activism of women within Iraq.
Finally, the purpose of organisations should as Stop the
War Coalition of which, the Muslim Association of Britain
is a part, is to work together to provide the broadest
possible opposition to war. The AWL would like to divide
that coalition. How big would the National demo on 28th
Sept have been without the Muslim community? And taking it
to its logical conclusion, why stop at Muslims? why not vet everyone for their opinions before agreeing to work with them? Personally, I appreciate the hard work and activism that Muslim Associations have put into the Stop the War Coalition.

Question

You wouldn't happen to be a member of the SWP, would you Sara? Just wondering - let's see if my "putting-the-line" detector is working.

Joss

(And no, I'm not in the AWL...)
