Police on the streets of London

There is a larger than normal police presence on the streets of London today, Saturday 11 November. Any answers?

Taking the bus in to town via Waterloo and Holborn this morning, I noticed police cars and motorbikes on every street, and the occasional road block and car search. No sirens or police chases though, just a visible presence. Any idea what is going on?
