Correct number of arrests??

The publicly stated number of arrests on the evening (eight) seems to only reflect the number of people who were ultimately charged. In fact, the overall total number of arrests for the whole evening probably exceeds the previous number of 14 as there were at least some people who had been arrested that were unknown about at that stage. Several people were subsequently released without charge - confirmation that the police acted first and thought later about what to charge people with??

Indeed, one report describes a jailed protestor hearing the police concocting stories once back at Charing Cross nick: rumours flew around the police canteen, along with poloroid photos of the arrested (it is amazing that in this day and age, the police still have to resort to the technology of yester-year), and further allegations of assault ("as well as kicking one officer in the leg, you also punched another officer in the face: he identified the protestor as you when he was upstairs!").
