I guess your intentions are good though. But you haven´t reached your true intellectual potential to that extent as those people who´ve entered a LIBRARY. Have you got one where you live?
True intellectual development is contrary to adopting every opinion uttered by some putative authority. The reason feeble minded persons do so, is because it fits their ready made picture of the world.
In a lot of cases, this "putative authority" is an author, like Marx, Hitler, Freud, Foucault etc. but just as common is politically correct views shared by a mob, some silly feminist fanzine or "radical" internet sites.

Besides, Im not aware that anarchists are particularly prone to relying on intellectual authority; if anything, they fall into the trap of making up their own homegrown philosophy, adding a touch of Kropotkin and whatever else is lying around. In contrast, I say, There is no disgrace in turning to established philosophers at all; I took issue with Truthfiend in an article below, where He dismisses Marcuse as failed "Cafe Philosophy". Well, I challenge him to come up with anything of comparable quality in any field for that matter. There isnt anything, is there ? Where are our modern Sartres, or Picassos, or Shostakovitch ? We have no philosophers, just pub wisdom, crank conspiracy theory and 'pundits', modern sophists such as Robert Winston on TV.

I don´t share your high regards of neither Marx, Freud or Marcuse. But I DO agree upon your opinions about the intellectual climate of today, to some extent.
If I HAVE to mention a late 20th century philosopher who´ve written better stuff than Marcuse in that particular field, i´d choose to say Habermas.
Thinkers more worthy of attention IN GENERAL than Marcuse and Dairy activists are Socrates, Plato, Cicero, Augustinus, Petrarch, Pacioli, Pico della Mirandola, Leonardo da Vinci, Leibniz, Shiller, Humboldt and......I could go on for days.
If I am to mention a VERY RECENT piece of work I consider more thoughtful and independent, I would name "the Social Construction of What?" by Ian Hacking (I think it was published in 1999). I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
By the way thinkers like Freud and Hitler are comparable in many ways. For example;
1. They are both, in part, products of the confused mental climate dominant in early 20th century Vienna. This mental state someone once described as "a laboratory of self destruction".
2. They both REDUCE human beings to entities which I believe is something obviously LESS than what a human being really is. Freud reduces us to "psyches" governed by certain "drives". Hitler reduces us to members of a "race" with particular fixed characteristics.
