Plyomuth- Scrap Trident Demo

500 decsend on Plymouth for a scrap trident march from Plymouth Hoe to Devonport Park. Live music in the park by local bands!

Today's Scrap Trident march was the best (and the biggest) yet! Around 500 people from as far afield as Southampton and Birmingham as well as people from Plymouth and the surrounding areas gathered to march, chant, wave banners and meet each other in solidarity in the fight against nuclear weapons. It was a colourful and friendly march with some dressed up for the occasion, and even the weather turned up in support, with glorious sunshine for most of the day. A highlight was when someone climbed the wall of the dockyard to hang a banner from the top, but everyone was peaceful, (although there had been rumours of the police 'expecting trouble') police prescence was minimal and no arrests were made. There were speakers at the park, followed three local bands-one folky, one mellow with a particulary memorably talented female guitarist (or should it be bassist? hmmm..) and at the end the well appreciated Bus Station Lunatics with old skool punk complete with mochican and songs about policemen! Everyone seemed to have a great time, dancing and chatting in the sunshine, now looking forward to the Peace Camp in November. This will be an action packed 4 days with workshops, action and demonstrations. More news coming soon about that!
Photos to follow soon also.
