Boer War Human Rights Activist Emily Hobhouse will be honoured tomorrow in a ceremony opening the annexe of the Millenium community Centre in Pensilva, Cornwall.
One of the most effective and vociferous critics of Kitcheners' Boer War concentration camps will be commemorated tomorrow at The Millenium Centre, Pensilva, Cornwall. An annexe at the Community Centre will be named after her in what, in Britain, is a rare acknowledgement of her life saving and radical actions to publicise, condemn and ammeiliorate the atrocities commited by British forces against Afrikaans civilians. Reviled by the British Establishment at the time and ignored by them since, she is a national heroine in South Africa. At last this Cornish parsons daughter, who died in 1926,is being recognised here for her brave, inspiring efforts to protect "enemy" civilians.
