Byrd quotes Goering on the US Senate floor

Senator Byrd attempts last chance to sway, shame fellow senators today --- he starts out the speach with a quote from Goering - tying the US Senate (and implicate the
Bush administration) as if they were victims of the former NAZI minister of propoganda

Byrd is now quoting from Goering (on the senate floor Thursday at 3:10 pm pacific time):

"Naturally the country doesn't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the
country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a
parliament, or a communist dictatorship.

That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism

and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

"Herman Goering,
convicted war criminal,
1935"

"the only reference to the Constitution (out of the Iraqi war resolution) was 'it has served us well...."

"HAS served us well...'

he is still speaking as 3:12 pm

"look at those people whose faces are pressed against the glass - it is their blood that will be spilled."

"Our duty is not to give this president or any president a blank check to enforce HIS policy doctrine"

"Our constitutional system was designed to protect against the president plunging this nation into war in the name of contrived ideals and political ambitions"
