80 People 'Die-in' in Hereford City Centre against War

Hereford Students Against War | 06.10.2002 13:50

80 people marched from Hereford Railway Station to Hereford City Centre Shopping Area in a protest against War in Iraq. The protesters including students, anarchists, pensioners and families surprised members of the public and police when tehy ended their march with a 'die-in' to symbolise the dead innocent victims that there would be if any war in Iraq was to go ahead.

There were no arrests although police were out in force. The press had a field day because it is the first demonstration of it's kind in Herefordshire.

The public gathered around to see what was going on and to take leaflets. Two of the demonstrators chalked around the 'bodies' on the floor of the pedestrian area. All of the protesters wore black and were silent. Some of the groups who attended included:

Hereford Peace Council, Hereford Anarchists, Hereford Green Party, Hereford Students against the War.

We look forward to seeing the newspaper coverage and photos. There were two radio interviews on BBC Hereford and Worcester with one of the peace activists and Paul Keetch, MP for Hereford and Lib Dem Defence spokesman.
