IDF Strongly Denies Amnesty's Report

GILL | 02.10.2002 19:53

In a strongly worded statement, the IDF SPokesperson's office rejected the conclusions of the recent Amnesty International report, "Killing the Future:

IDF Strongly Denies Amnesty's Report
IDF Strongly Denies Amnesty's Report

Children in the Line of Fire" which accused the IDF of encouraging the murders of Arab children. The IDF Spokesperson said in part: "All IDF operations adhere to international humanitarian law, in strict
compliance with the highest moral and legal standards. In glaring contrast,
Palestinian terrorist factions defy all norms, be they moral or legal,
deliberately attacking civilians only because they are Israeli..."

"The Palestinian terrorists are solely and unequivocally responsible for the
injuries caused to Palestinian children. Since the beginning of the conflict
two years ago, the Palestinian terrorist factions have cynically exploited
children in terrorist activity, in violation of international law. Children
are groomed and dispatched to carry out suicide attacks in the centers of
the Israeli civilian population; positioned at the front lines of
demonstrations to hide snipers behind them; and used to plant explosives and deliver weapons. Moreover, the terrorist factions have transformed
Palestinian civilian population centers into terrorist activity
headquarters."

"Authors of the Amnesty report compare IDF operations in which Palestinian
children were killed to Palestinian terror attacks in which Israeli children
were killed. This comparison is unjustified and baseless. Palestinian terror
attacks, especially suicide bombings, are designated to cause the death of
Israeli civilians, including children: this is ruthless, unprecedented,
inhuman terror. On the other hand, IDF activity is conducted in accordance
with the laws of war and is not aimed at injuring civilians. Injuries are
occasionally sustained only because the Palestinian terrorists act from
within centers of Palestinian civilian population. Hence, any comparison
between the two is groundless, and indicates a fundamental lack of balance
among authors of the report."

322 children killed in the conflict in the last year.

In one of its most shocking reports on the Israeli-Palestinian war, Amnesty International today condemns both sides in the conflict for their "utter disregard" for the lives of children – 250 of them Palestinian and 72 Israeli – who have been killed over the past year.

the report blames Israel for "excessive and disproportionate use of lethal force" and "reckless shooting" in residential areas, and Palestinians for "direct and indiscriminate attacks"
Some examples that indicate to me that "IDF activity is conducted in accordance with the laws of war and is not aimed at injuring civilians" is just not true...
11-year-old Khalil Mughrabi, killed by an Israeli sniper in Gaza – one of his friends survived after being shot in the testicles by a high-velocity round – and 10-year-old Riham al-Ward, killed in her Jenin schoolyard by an Israeli tank shell
and of course for balance there is the killing of Raaya and Hemda, aged 14 and two, killed with their parents by a Palestinian suicide bomber in a Jerusalem pizzeria, Shalhevet Pass – just 10 months old – shot by a Palestinian sniper in Hebron.Amnesty says if international monitors had been deployed on the ground – and Israel has repeatedly refused to allow this – many of the children's lives might have been spared.
What the international organisation does not say, but which its report makes abundantly clear, is that children have become "fair game" for both sides in the Israeli-Palestinian war. Innocence, as usual, has been trampled by war

Dear World,

It appears that you are hard to please. I understand that you are upset over us, here in Israel. Indeed, it appears that you are quite upset, even angry and outraged? Indeed, every few years you seem to become upset over us. Today, it is the brutal repression of the Palestinians; yesterday, it was Lebanon; before that it was the bombing of the nuclear reactor in Baghdad and the Yom Kippur War campaign. It appears that Jews who triumph and who, therefore, live, upset you most extraordinarily. Of course, dear world, long before there was an Israel, we, the Jewish people - upset you. We upset a German people who elected a Hitler and we upset an Austrian people who cheered his entry into Vienna and we upset a whole slew of Slavic nations - Poles, Slovaks, Lithuanians, Ukrainians, Russians, Hungarians, Romanians. And we go back a long, long way in the history of world upset. We upset the Cossacks of Chmielnicki who massacred tens of thousands of us in 1648-49; we upset the Crusaders who, on their way to liberate the Holy Land, were so upset at Jews that they slaughtered untold numbers of us. We upset, for centuries, a Roman Catholic Church that did its best to define our relationship through Inquisitions. And we upset the arch-enemy of the Church, Martin Luther, who, in his call to burn the synagogues and the Jews within them, showed an admirable Christian ecumenical spirit.

It is because we became so upset over upsetting you, dear world, that we decided to leave you - in a manner of speaking - and establish a Jewish State. The reasoning was that living in close contact with you, as resident-strangers in the various countries that comprise you, we upset you, irritate you, disturb you. What better notion, then, than to leave you and thus love you - and have you love us? And so we decided to come home - to the same homeland from which we were driven out 1,900 years earlier by a Roman world that, apparently, we also upset.

Alas, dear world, it appears that you are hard to please. Having left you and your Pogroms and Inquisitions and Crusades and Holocausts, having taken our leave of the general world to live alone in our own little state - we continue to upset you.

You are upset that we repress the poor Palestinians. You are deeply angered over the fact that we do not give up the lands of 1967, which are clearly the obstacle to peace in the Middle East. Moscow is upset and Washington is upset. The Arabs are upset and the gentle Egyptian moderates are upset. Well, dear world, consider the reaction of a normal Jew from Israel. In 1920, 1921 and 1929, there were no territories of 1967 to impede peace between Jews and Arabs. Indeed, there was no Jewish State to upset anybody. Nevertheless, the same oppressed and repressed Palestinians slaughtered hundreds of Jews in Jerusalem, Jaffa, Safed and Hebron. Indeed, 67 Jews were slaughtered one day in Hebron - in 1929.

Dear World, why did the Arabs - the Palestinians - massacre 67 Jews in one day in 1929? Could it have been their anger over Israeli aggression in 1967? And why were 510 Jewish men, women and children slaughtered in Arab riots in 1936-39? Was it because of Arab upset over 1967? And when you, World, proposed a U.N. Partition Plan in 1947 that would have created a Palestinian State alongside a tiny Israel and the Arabs cried and went to war and killed 6,000 Jews - was that upset stomach caused by the aggression of 1967? And, by the way, dear world, why did we not hear your cry of upset then?

The poor Palestinians who today kill Jews with explosives and firebombs and stones are part of the same people who - when they had all the territories they now demand be given them for their state - attempted to drive the Jewish State into the sea. The same twisted faces, the same hate, the same cry of "idbah-al-yahud" - "Slaughter the Jews!" that we hear and see today, were seen and heard then. The same people, the same dream - destroy Israel. What they failed to do yesterday, they dream of today - but we should not "repress" them.

Dear World, you stood by the Holocaust and you stood by in 1948 as seven states launched a war that the Arab League proudly compared to the Mongol massacres. You stood by in 1967 as Nasser, wildly cheered by wild mobs in every Arab capital in the world, vowed to drive the Jews into the sea. And you would stand by tomorrow if Israel were facing extinction. And since we know that the Arabs-Palestinians daily dream of that extinction, we will do everything possible to remain alive in our own land. If that bothers you, dear world, well - think of how many times in the past you bothered us. In any event, dear world, if you are bothered by us, here is one Jew in Israel who could not care less.

That kid in the picture really has some balls to throw rocks at a stationary tank, while its crew and other soldiers are far in the background, clearly not in a ready mode.

Israel rogue state

03.10.2002 04:43

'Dear World' thinks we are upset by jews community, no we are against Israel. Israel was found on the land of Palestine, nor there was anything called Israel except the northen part of what israel is now, the south part was Judah. Judaism was the religion of Judah and not Israel as such. Israel is a rogue state, founded by terrorists (now in power, Sharon an example, doesn't ring a bell to you?). Expansionism is the right word to express israel. Nor I think you have any clue about history; it seems that some jews, now called themselves zionists, were colloboraters with nazis (remember zionism is a right wing ideology). They decided which jews should go to concentration camps, apparently french jews were responsible (they were not alone, don't worry). For the jews of the Diaspora I think that they are of jews religion but not more jews. They lost there semitism, they are white. Jews from Europe who went in israel to escape from their suffering were white. This jews are responsible of what is going on the land of Palestine. Not just they are racists with the semitic jews (jews born in Palestine), semitic jews are second class citizen.
I do not think that people of the Diaspora support israel, not the majority at least.
Did israel bombed Bagdad because they thought Saddam had nuclear reactor? What a shame! Israel have atomic bombs, like USA, UK, France, Pakistan, India, so explain to me why your country didn't bombed other countries as well. Is Saddam more dangerous than israel, USA,UK? What a farce.
I do remember a Zen Koan, it was like this: 'to thieves do not have to represented each other' Obviously instead of two thieves you may put israel and iraq, israel and usa/uk.
Palestinians do not have soldiers but all the people are soldiers, maybe they are not training soldiers but they are!
They do not kill for the sake of it, they have nothing to loose but their fetters.
