Stop the war day of action, 31st October 2002. Call for a London Critical Mass

Call out for a critical mass in london as a form of moving blockade for the day of action, 31 october 2002

The Stop The War Coalition has called for a day of action on the 31st of this month to oppose the possibility of a full out war on Iraq. They have suggested occupations, teach-ins and blockades as suitable actions for the day.

A group of individuals in London thought it would be very successful to have a Critical Mass in London, on the day of the actions, with an anti-war theme. This would form a very effective, moving blockade which would be very hard to control and would most likely cause maximum disruption.

Ideas we have had include a tour of London’s various military offices and sites or multiple blockades of major intersections at strategic times. However, failing detailed plans, a simple meet up point and a straight up anti-war themed spontaneous Critical Mass would also have a good effect.

However, time is running out and there is currently no organising body for this event or any solid plans, it exists merely as an idea. For this event to take place we need people to get involved now.

A provisional, under-construction website ( http://www.cm-london.cjb.net) and discussion list ( cm-london-subscribe@lists.riseup.net) have been set up. If you are interested in this idea in any way, please get involved now.

We aim for this event to be informative, colourful, spontaneous and loud!

Please note - there is nothing organised for this and no one responsible for it. Whether it happens or not is down to whether people like you make it happen.

(Please spread this message on and offline as far as possible)

People should turn up on foot as well

As well as people turning up on bikes people should turn up on foot as well and bring drums whistles, portable sound systems etc, similar to the Mayday action in Mayfair. I would suggest that people meet up some where that the police cannot block off, somewhere like Soho for instance as they did when they met up in Mayfair for Mayday, but Mayfair was too big for everyone to meet up easily, Soho would be better as it is much smaller. Then we could have a mobile RTS style party with an anti-war theme and block roads and stop traffic all over central London throught the day.

Reclaim The Streets would probably be interested in helping to organise something like this as well as groups like the "Wombles" and "Direct Action Against War Now".
