the stewards are there to control all the demonstrators so that the swp controls what happens on the march
they are going to try to keep the samba band to very back of the march
and have the 1st 1000 people entirely enclosed and not letting any1 in this group who isnt first vetted by the 2 chief stewards
so here is a rough guide to their plans
coaches arrive 10am southside waterloo bridge from round uk
when that area gets full
police will direct buses to south side of blackfriars bridge
stewards will direct all media to press enclosure south side hungerford bridge
where "red" ken and other celebs will talk to them
police might close blackfriars tube in the morning
so the 2nd tube to be used will be temple
both will be heavily stewarded

stewards will wear yellow bibs
and will use mobiles
to communicate!
stewards have been told to not allow any1 into 1st 1000 people block
without VETTING THEM through chief stewards
!they have also been told to keep the samba band right at the back!
and enclose any sit down protests so that the march can get past
they have been told to enclose troublemakers and shout them down
and surround them with placards
they are especially concerned to police around downing st because of bad press

according to stewards timetable march will be in hyde park from 3 to 5.30 and then "marchers go home"

no non-official media to be let in
"stewards will act as spotter teams
when some people objected to keeping samba band at back
"in terms of all demonstrations, it [stewarding] is not a democratic process. We have chief stewards - we don't need a democratic consultation about the SAMBA band and its the same with the police"

corporate meeting on greenwash and do some spying there, and
give us some useful information, rather than ANOTHER thread on the SWP.

Like it or not, the STWC (which has a large SWP contingent) has organised this march. Its done fuckloads of logistical and publicity work. I agree that autonomous blocs on the march should be able to do NVDA if they so wish, but if you want to do it, then theres nothing to stop you moving a few hundred metres away from the march and closing another road. In fact, that'd probably be a better approach.

So, in short, instead of wasting your energy slagging off the SWP again, organise something interesting and sort something out...the only reason they will dominate this march is because they have got off their arses and organised something.

Do the same yourself.

I defy anyone to efficiently run even a zero-confrontation stewarding operation just using mobile phones. the security drawbacks of h/p radios are obvious. the organisational drawbacks of only being able to talk to one steward at a time are numerous.

I am more and more convinced these anti-SWP posts are put up by police spies. I never buy SWP newspapers, and have never been to a Trot meeting, but I want to give credit where credit is due. They are an absolutely vital part of the living Left in Britain today.

And yesterdays demo was an enormous success.

I actually find this post quite plausible. At the same
time it's quite an eyeopener at reminding us of the SWP
style of doing things, which is not something we can
simply ignore in the name of unity.

Not that I will let it stop me going on such events, far
from it, we just need to be more vocal in our support for
effective direct action etc.

insofar as Rhythms of Resistance were forced towards the back of the march on the day. I thought this was just a police operation but it's no surprise that the STWC should want to keep them at arms length. RoR have been very much at the heart of the anti-capitalist movement, stemming from reclaim the streets actions and june the 18th. Elements in the coalition (make an educated guess) are well known for recently trying to present themselves as the anti-capitalist movement, but when it doesn't suit them we see how they keen to disassociate themselves from those who have been prepared to throw themselves in at the front line.

I have no problem with NVDA, but the organisers of the protest did not want any trouble on the day. They wanted the size and diversity of the march to speak for itself. I think the STWC has put out a call for direct action on 31st October or when the bombing starts- which ever is sooner. There is a time and a place for everything.

i am sooooo sick of you people who do nothing but
complain. and its funny that you got all the private
numbers eh? frankly its obvious that you are old bill

listen. the demonstration was incredible. diverse, united, radical and clear.
but whether you like it or not the stop the war coalition
is in large part financed and supported by the SWP.
it is a GENUINE coalition involving many groups and
individuals but at it's heart lie ORGANISED revolutionaries.
Posters were printed, coaches were booked,
meetings were held and tickets were sold by
revolutionary socialists up and down the country.
so can you just stop your endless winging already?
all we want to do is help give some structure occasionally.
and like the ANL 20,000 carnival (yeah, yeah) or the 400,000 demonstration you have to admit we
sometimes pull it off.
and NO, before some idiot says that it wasnt only the SWP doing stuff OF COURSE NOT, everyone
should be involved
but i have never once seen any of you endless whiners organising a public meeting of 200 in a small town or
shelling out your own cash to pay for coaches to bring
"ordinary" people to demos.
if we are going to debate politics fine.

You describe them as revolutionaries - but I don't want a revolution organised for me by "Democratic Centralists" that is what led to the shit-hole known as the USSR.

Give me an anarchist revolution with NO Leaders anytime.

THe only reason they sell papers and book buses is that they are hungry for power. Don't let them fool you - also have a word with them sometime about whether they have any respect for the environment.

the reason people book coaches is because they want people on demos. i have yet to see 9after twenty years of activism) ONE coach booked by an anarchist group. and i don't an old van full of people who already know each other.
if genoa teaches us anything it is that anarchist think they are above the mass of people and go off and do there own thing in a tiny group.
you dont own the movement so stop pretending that you do.
your just hierarchical and exclusive tiny groups of friends who spend most of your time complaining about working people who do something real. go on, book a coach and sell tickets next time. i dare you.
