On Tuseday, Benny Wenda's trial began and was immediately haulted due to the prosecution failing to hand the interrogation files to the defence. (article 1)
Benny Wenda is the leader of DeMMAk, an organisation representing the traditional tribal people of West Papua and their aspirations for freedom from Indonesain occupation.
Today, Thursday, proceedings will begin again. He is being falsely charged with an attack on Abepura police station, two years ago. The prosecution are seeking a 19 year term. He has already been held in poor conditions for 3 months prior to his trial.
