Fortunes of War

Fortunes of war await Bush's circle after attacks on Iraq

The above trivial Easter comment is worthy to stay on the newswire, but Cheney's profits from Desert Storm isn't?

FORTUNEs of WAR DEPT.

Must be nice to be able to go from Secretary of Defense under Bush Sr. to chief executive of Halliburton, the Texas-based oil services company, to Vice-President under Bush Jr. Nice and profitable that is. My oh my what conflicts of interest our leaders have. It's a wonder the present administration can remain impartial and objective when it comes to decisions that directly or indirectly affect their corporate friends. Maybe a restriction on certain executive office positions should be that no one with a net worth over $1 million is eligible. Or better yet, any one who wants to be President must take a vow of poverty. Same for the V.P. and the Cabinet. Sounds good to me.

"Messrs Bush, Cheney and friends have either sold their stock holdings or put them in a blind trust, meaning personal gain is off the agenda. But gain for their friends and family may well be a by-product of the looming war against Iraq."

It's coming up to Ramadan, not Easter, which is the Muslim Holy Month, spent in prayer and fasting and that's America's cue to begin another bombing raid on Iraq.
