Reclaim The Future London Party Update - 4.30pm

1630 - Latest from north london 'reclaim the future' RTS event in tottenham:

The police numbers went up this afternoon and they began stopping people in cars entering the aldi supermarket car park to access the venue for the festie party, even demanding the keys to a vehicle off one person.

They also tried stopping people on foot until quite a number of people were waiting, while at the same time trying to get the building ruled as unsafe - they failed in this attempt and they moved aside to let people through.

Apparently they are now saying that a council official will serve a noise abatement order (though doesn't that have to be _after_ noise has been made? - i dunno)

Anyway, the reclaimed space is amazing, has been decked out very nicely and is looking great with exhibitions all over the place and workshops running in several of the rooms.

Bit silly really having a party when hordes of right-wing scum are amassing in central London including at the LSE in preparation for tomorrow's march.

The cops said we couldn't walk through the car park because it's private land and the supermarket didn't want us to, the supermarket manager said we couldn't walk through because we were clearly having an ilegal rave - otherwise the police wouldn't be trying to stop us.

There was a bit of pointles arguing with manager and police, some talk of getting a lawer to explain that we were doing nothing illegal, and then we just just all walked through together and there was nothing they could do to stop us. I was threatened with arrest once or twice on the way in, but the cops knew there was nothing they could arrest anyone for.

(trespass is not a crime)

Really nice party - building looks buitiful, good talks & workshops, films, performers, food... Get down there.

After the workshops the party started on a high note as loads of people worked together to get the sound systems past the police. At first they tried to grab people but the crowd was having non of it and simply bypassed the cops with weight of numbers and polite misdirection.

This was one of the best parties I've been to in a very long time. Loads of banners all over the place, a superb exhibition of old photos, flyers etc and wicked food. The bands were brilliant and with plenty of variety there was something for everyone young and old, including those into techno and drum n bass. It was great to see kids there and everyone looking out for each other and a real sense of togetherness. The other decorations were top too, from the life sized womble figure with sledghamer next to the painted car, to the ace projections.

The music turned off at around 7am and the party produced a lot of happy freshly inspired people.

Well done everyone!
